Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Mixing bowl
  • Silicone Molds or Ice Cube Trays
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup spinach fresh or frozen
  • 1/4 cup peas cooked and mashed
  • 1/4 cup carrots steamed and pureed
  • 1/4 cup shrimp cooked and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon spirulina powder
  • 1 tablespoon gelatin unflavored
  • 1/2 cup fish stock or water
  • 1 tablespoon fish oil optional for extra omega-3s

Instructions

  • Prepare the Vegetables: If using fresh spinach, blanch it briefly in boiling water, then chop it finely. Steam and puree the carrots. Cook the peas until soft, then mash them.
  • Blend the Ingredients: In a blender or food processor, combine the spinach, peas, carrots, shrimp, and spirulina powder. Add a small amount of fish stock or water to help with blending, and blend until smooth.
  • Prepare the Gelatin: In a small bowl, dissolve the gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold water. Let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom. Then, heat it gently in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Combine the Mixture: Pour the gelatin mixture into the blended ingredients. Stir well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly. If the mixture seems too thick, add more fish stock or water to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency.
  • Mold the Food: Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays. Flatten the surface with a spatula to ensure even portions.
  • Freeze: Place the molds in the freezer for several hours or overnight until the food is frozen solid.
  • Serve: Once frozen, remove the fish food cubes from the molds. Feed your fish by placing one or two cubes into the tank at a time, depending on their size and dietary needs.
